How can Physiotherapy help with migraines/headaches

Do you get migraines/headaches?

What if I told you there was help available that doesn’t involve drugs, side effects, constant pain and feeling awful.

Before we help firstly we need to understand what a migraine is and how it is caused. Triggers can be different for everyone but it is important to try and figure out triggers as it is the first step in beating this.

Here’s the medical part! A migraine is a chronic primary headache which can occur in episodes. There are a couple of schools of thought on what can occur during a migraine however a common thought is that it affects central neuronal processing which in turn triggers peptide release within the cranial vessels and the dura matter.

Don’t worry about understanding this, it’s our job at All Out Physiotherapy to help you with this and this means we need to understand all of the complex stuff behind this.

Symptoms tend to last between 4-72 hours and can be debilitating. Pain varies from person to person and can have symptoms such as light sensitivity, sound or odor sensitivities as well. We can get visual disturbances also.

The important part is how I can help with this. Well treatment is holistic in nature in that we look at the whole body on order to find a cause and a way to help you with this.

First we keep a diary of your migraines and symptoms in order to track progress. Secondly we assess mainly the head and neck area to see if there are any potential physical causes contributing to your symptoms. We also look at hydration and stress levels as well. We provide services such as acupuncture and massage (Dylan the head physio is qualified in both of these). This can provide quick and effective pain relief for this.

Don’t suffer in silence with this, help is just a call or message away. Get in contact with us and we can help you take control of your health.
