Misinformation

Over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed a disturbing trend. This is one that has plagued everyone in the healthcare industry and even morecso over the past couple of years.

This trend of fear-mongering to patients and the general public when it comes to pain/injury management has to stop. We aren’t fragile, crumbling or weak.

The specific type of fear-mongering I’m referring to is one that limits patients by using our words. I was told by two separate patients recently about how “their kyphosis (bend in the upper back) is going to crush their lungs eventually (despite no medical evidence pointing to such and their kyphosis wasn’t even that bad) and “your back is too bad for surgery to fix”.

I have heard other health professionals tell patients that exercises will not help them only for them to prescribe exercises to that particular person.

That being said in my experience there is a lot more good than bad within healthcare, it’s just the bad is very loud at the moment compared to the good that’s happening.

This applies to everyday life as well if we only have negative thoughts then it tends to dictate how our day is going compared to if we tried to focus on the positive.

At All Out Physiotherapy, we pride ourselves in remaining positive and in helping others to take control of their health. We hold ourselves accountable to everyone we treat in that there’s a positive and actively try to promote making rehab fun and accessible to all this allowing you to achieve your goals.

Don’t listen to the doom and gloom in the world, blast some music, so something you enjoy, take your time and go at your own pace, take breaks but most importantly have fun.

Now if you need an empathetic ear to listen and you are motivated to take control of your health get in contact and see how we can help you!
