At All Out Physiotherapy we pride ourselves on being able to help others take control of their health and achieve their goals. The main aims for a physiotherapist in a private clinic are usually to help reduce or manage pain levels. This can be done using a variety of techniques.
Here are some I use to help my clients
- Deep breathing/meditation
This is an effective way of helping you with pain levels. Start with finding a comfortable position that your able to stay on for 5-10mins. Start be focussing on all of the tense areas around your body and thing about these tense parts unwinding and releasing. Rinse and repeat for all the other tense areas in your body. If your struggling there are guided meditations on YouTube which can help with this.
2. Acupressure
This is a powerful technique which can help with pain relief. Based on the traditional Chinese acupuncture points all you need to do is find the slightly tender point in the area between your thumb and your 1st finger.
Squeeze it for around 30’s and this can help to stimulate the release of pain relieving hormones within the brain. (Extra tip- eating chocolate can also have a similar effect).
3. Soft tissue release
This can be done with your hands, tennis ball or a foam roller. Firstly find the sore spot and push into it. It will be painful at first so don’t push too hard. It should take around 30’s to a minute however the pain should ease slightly and you might feel like you can move more freely.
4. Gentle movement
Moving around can help with your pains as well. Its actively encouraged to move around despite your pain levels as it can prevent things like stiffness and reduction in strength and fitness levels if you move compared to sitting around.
The last and most important tip is to book in and see us at All Out Physiotherapy. The above techniques can be helpful but nothing can replace seeing a health professional about your aches and pains. We provide bespoke exercise programmes and advice tailored to your problems which will allow you to take control of your health and get back to full fitness.
